Legendary motorsport photographer Anwar Sidi has announced his exit from the 2026 WRC Safari Rally, bringing down the curtain on more than four decades of iconic rally coverage.
In a heartfelt statement, Sidi said the decision, effective immediately, followed "considerable thought" and was driven by a persistent structural issue within the department. He noted that his contributions had not been "adequately appreciated or respected," making it necessary for him to chart a new professional path.
"While this was a difficult decision, I believe it is the necessary one for my professional journey. I am leaving with my head held high, appreciative of the experiences and opportunities I've had," he wrote.
With over 43 years of dedication, Sidi has been a cornerstone of rally photography, capturing some of the most daring and unforgettable moments in Safari Rally history.

His work has documented the evolution of the sport and inspired a generation of motorsport photographers across Africa and beyond.
Although stepping away from the WRC Safari Rally, Sidi stressed this does not mark the end of his motorsport journey.

His departure is being felt across the motorsport fraternity, with colleagues lauding his unmatched eye for detail, courage to capture high-risk shots, and unwavering commitment to the sport.
For more than four decades, he braved harsh terrains, unpredictable weather, and high-speed danger to deliver images that defined rallying in Kenya.

His decision, while signaling a new chapter, underscores his belief that progress sometimes demands hard choices.
In closing, he thanked all who have supported him, "Thank you for all of your support and for the opportunity to contribute to the development of the sport, both personally and professionally."
