Instagram has rolled out one of its most requested updates, introducing a feature that allows users to rearrange posts on their profile grids, ending years of speculation and repeated user demand.

Starting Monday, June 8, users worldwide can now move photos and videos into any order they prefer instead of being locked into the platform’s default chronological layout.

The feature is designed to give creators, brands and everyday users greater control over how their profiles are presented, enabling more curated visual storytelling and portfolio-style layouts.

To access the tool, users need to open their Instagram profile in the mobile app, press and hold any post until an editing menu appears, then select “Reorder grid”.

This opens an interface where posts can be dragged and dropped into a new arrangement.

Pinned posts remain fixed at the top of the profile and are unaffected by any changes, appearing locked or greyed out within the editing view.

Meta acknowledged the delay in introducing the feature, saying it knew the tool was long overdue but wanted to take the time to get the execution right.

The company has faced sustained pressure from users, including creators and major brands, who have long pushed for more flexibility in how profile pages are structured, whether for aesthetic presentation, highlighting projects or grouping themed content.

The update is available exclusively on Instagram’s mobile app for iOS and Android, with no support for desktop.

Users can rearrange their grids as often as they like, with no usage limits, allowing frequent experimentation and updates to profile layouts.

Importantly, changes to post placement do not affect the content itself.

Photos and videos retain their original timestamps, captions, likes and comments, with only their position on the grid changing.

The new functionality effectively transforms profile pages from fixed chronological feeds into customizable showcases, giving users the ability to refine their digital identity, highlight key content and refresh their visual presence without deleting or reposting material.
