Passengers aboard a Nairobi-bound bus witnessed unexpected drama during a stopover when a chicken escaped into a nearby field, forcing its owners into a spirited chase.
A viral video shared by Bahati Muyale shows a man in a white shirt sprinting from the bus toward a bushy field, where another man in a black T-shirt stands waiting.
"On my way to Nakuru for an official duty, I boarded the Guardian Angel Bus from Siaya. After a long day, I couldn't use the 7 AM one, so I opted for the one that leaves at 9 AM. It took us rounds picking some travelers from the Butere area (Luanda)," Muyale shared.
"We arrived in Kisumu, and we went for a tire routine check-up! My people from Western Kenya wouldn't fail to amaze me. The mighty chicken escaped from the boot and yoooh!" he continued.
The runaway chicken briefly appeared before slipping away, prompting a third person to join the pursuit, shortly before the video cut away from the unsuccessful chase.
The bus, operated by Guardian Angel, is said to have departed from Siaya.
Kenyans online quickly turned the incident into comedy, flooding comment sections with witty takes.
"Better the bus leaves than leaving the hen behind," joked Facebook user Philip Ligare.
"The hen wanted to poop like any other person, right?" quipped Victor Maiyo.
Bigsam Mkongo chimed in, "That was not about chicken-there was a reason. The delay, God was working on something."
And Owino Dan added, "Very in order. Food first, transport can wait."
The incident comes barely a week after heightened travel was witnessed in the country, owing to the school reopening.
August has particularly been plagued by an increase in road accidents around the country. This is despite grim statistics from a report on the state of road accidents in the country.
According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), there were 3,581 road accident fatalities in Kenya between April 2024 and March 2025.
This marks a 10 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous financial year.
The main causes of fatal crashes include hit-and-run incidents, improper overtaking, vehicles losing control, tyre bursts, and failing to maintain a proper lane, leading to head-on collisions.
