An undated video has emerged showing Nairobi County enforcement officers forced to abandon their mission after being engaged in commotion during an apprehension.
The footage, now viral, shows the officers trying to apprehend a motorist suspected of committing a traffic offence at the intersection of Kenyatta Avenue and Muindi Mbingu Street.
What perhaps began as a routine stop quickly descended into a heated argument, drawing in curious bystanders and pedestrians.
One officer stood outside the Toyota Passo as another wrestled with the driver inside the car, apparently over possession of his mobile phone.
The driver could be heard warning the officer against confiscating the device as the situation escalated.
"Mnamuuliza nini?! Tunawaona!" a man filming the incident is heard saying as the crowd grew louder.
"Toka bana! Hamuwezi zoza. Mmezoea wananchi sana!" onlookers shouted, confronting the enforcement officers, who eventually walked away subdued.
Kenyans online have since reacted strongly to the video, with many questioning the conduct of county officials.
The incident comes just weeks after a similar clash between Nairobi County askaris and a street photographer went viral.
In that case, a scuffle broke out between two young men and three officials over a stool used for photoshoots.
The officers attempted to seize the seat as passers-by recorded the standoff, which ended with the officials leaving in a council vehicle.
The photographer later alleged he had been paying the officers Sh1,000 every Sunday.
