DreamWorks has released a new trailer for Shrek 5, offering fans their first extended look at the return of the beloved ogre and his friends.
The trailer reunites franchise favourites Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz while teasing a new adventure for the ogre family. It opens with a nostalgic recap of Shrek and Donkey's first journey before Donkey interrupts, setting the tone for another comedic escapade.
The footage showcases the franchise's updated animation style, with characters appearing more detailed than in previous films.
Donkey hints at a new adventure as familiar faces return alongside fresh additions to the cast. Among the biggest reveals are Shrek and Fiona's teenage children, who are expected to play a major role in the story.
New cast members include Zendaya, Marcello Hernandez and Skylar Gisondo, who will voice Felicia, Fergus and Farkle, respectively.
The trailer also features several comedic moments, including a bulked-up Gingy, references to the Pied Piper and a playful parody of Olaf from Frozen.
In one of the final scenes, the group lands behind bars, where Donkey breaks into renditions of "Baby Come Back" and "Roxanne", much to Shrek's frustration.
Plot details remain under wraps, but the film marks a major milestone for the franchise. Shrek 5 will be the first mainline instalment in more than 17 years, following Shrek Forever After in 2010.
The film is directed by Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn, with Brad Ableson serving as co-director. Producers include Gina Shay and Chris Meledandri.
Myers has also hinted at the possibility of a sixth film, while a Donkey spin-off is planned after the release of Shrek 5.
The film is scheduled to hit theatres on June 30, 2027.
