Kamulu man accused of indecently assaulting 20-year-old maid while wife was away

A Kamulu man is at the centre of a disturbing rape case after a 20-year-old house help accused him of sexually assaulting her twice while his wife was away on a work assignment.

Jefferson Mokwa Kamao, the accused, is said to have taken advantage of the young woman's vulnerability at their Kamulu home, turning what should have been a routine period of household trust into a nightmare.

The alleged attacks reportedly occurred during the nights of May 14th and 15th, when Kamao's wife was out of town for work.

According to court documents, Kamao allegedly waited until the family's baby was sound asleep before making his move at around 10pm.

The house help told police that she was dragged into the master bedroom against her will, undressed, and raped.

"I cried out in protest," the young woman told police, "but he didn't stop. Afterwards, he apologised, saying he didn't mean to."

But the trauma didn't end there. She alleges the abuse happened again the following night, and Kamao now faces a rape charge along with an alternative count of committing an indecent act with an adult, contrary to Section 11(A) of the Sexual Offences Act of 2006.

He is also accused of penetrating the victim using his fingers, a further sexual assault charge.

Upon her employer's return, the house help, visibly shaken, opened up. She confided in the woman of the house, hinting that "something distressing had happened." The employer confronted her husband, who denied everything.

The house help was then taken to hospital for medical examination and treatment. However, she later claimed she was warned against naming the suspect, a detail that added to her sense of fear and helplessness.

Feeling unsafe and mentally distressed, she asked to leave the home and go stay with her sister. It was then that her employer, in a shocking twist, accused the house help of seducing her husband and dared her to report the matter to police "if she truly believed she was a victim."

The house help filed a formal complaint with the authorities, prompting Kamao's arrest.

He appeared before the court and denied all charges, securing his release on a Sh500,000 cash bail. The court set November 16 as the hearing date for a case that has gripped many with both outrage and unease.
