In a shocking case that began as a neighbourhood dispute over a missing television set, a man ended up grievously injuring his girlfriend’s neighbour after she accused the victim of wrongly implicating her in the theft.
Kevin Otieno now faces serious charges after he allegedly responded to his girlfriend’s distress call by storming her place of residency armed with a kitchen knife.
The incident unfolded when the complainant, Zakayo Ojuok Aluke casually warned his children about a thief in their midst following the disappearance of their television. Though he never mentioned any names, Otieno's girlfriend interpreted the remarks as a direct accusation against her.
Enraged, she confronted the man publicly, shouting that he had failed to learn his lesson after allegedly sending goons to attack her previously. She then summoned her boyfriend for backup.
Moments later, Otieno arrived with an accomplice. Without warning, they pounced on the victim, stabbing him viciously on the right side of his face, dangerously close to his eye.
The force of the attack caused the victim to lose consciousness. Concerned residents rushed him first to Jama Mission Hospital before he was transferred to a better-equipped facility for specialised treatment.
Otieno was arraigned before Makadara Senior Resident Magistrate Stephanie Bett, where he pleaded not guilty to causing grievous harm. He was released on bond of Sh300,000 or an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000. The case will be heard on November 30.
