Ghana’s newly unveiled home jersey is unlikely to make its on-field debut during the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after FIFA released the official kit colour allocations for the tournament’s opening round.

The new Puma-designed strip, launched in New York last month, features a white base with a distinctive cobweb pattern inspired by Kwaku Ananse, the legendary spider character from West African folklore.

The jersey was widely praised for celebrating Ghanaian culture and heritage.

However, FIFA’s colour assignments for Group L matches suggest the Black Stars will not wear the new home kit in any of their first three fixtures unless changes are agreed during pre-match coordination meetings.

Ghana begin their World Cup campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17 before facing England in Boston on June 23 and Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.

Under FIFA regulations, teams submit both home and away kits before the tournament, with the governing body determining matchday colours to avoid clashes and ensure clear contrast for players, officials, broadcasters and spectators.

As a result, Ghana are expected to rely on alternative kit options throughout the group stage, postponing the anticipated debut of the new shirt on football’s biggest stage.

The jersey could still appear later in the tournament if Ghana progresses to the knockout rounds, where kit selections are made based on the teams involved.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on June 11 across the United States, Canada and Mexico, is the first edition of the tournament to feature 48 nations.

For now, Ghanaian fans may have to wait a little longer to see the Kwaku Ananse-inspired jersey in action.
