VIDEO: Jalang'o heckled with 'Wantam!' chants during Vurugu 2 showdown

Lang’ata MP Phelix Jalang'o was at the centre of an unexpected moment during the hyped Vurugu 2 boxing event after sections of the audience broke into chants as he was being introduced.

The incident occurred when the master of ceremonies invited the legislator to greet attendees.

Immediately after his name was announced, parts of the crowd erupted into loud chants that disrupted the introduction and briefly stalled proceedings.

“Wantam! Wantam!” could be heard repeatedly as the reaction spread quickly across sections of the packed venue, growing louder and making it difficult for the MC to proceed as planned.

Jalang’o appeared largely unresponsive to the unfolding disruption as the MC attempted to continue with the programme.

Despite efforts to maintain order, the atmosphere inside the venue became tense, with attention shifting away from the scheduled activities.

Organisers were forced to slow the proceedings as they worked to regain control of the crowd.

The interruption briefly overshadowed both the boxing matches and musical performances that were underway at the event.

Vurugu 2, which combined celebrity boxing bouts with live music and entertainment acts, drew a large turnout and maintained a high-energy atmosphere throughout the night, with spectators actively engaging in various moments of the show.

As the chants persisted, event host Oga Obinna stepped in to restore order, directly appealing to the audience to calm down and allow the programme to continue without further disruption.

Obinna acknowledged the enthusiasm in the room but urged restraint, after which proceedings gradually resumed, and the event continued.
