A 28-year-old man from Mukuru kwa Njenga in Nairobi is facing criminal charges after allegedly biting his wife on the private parts, ear and limbs during a violent domestic altercation triggered by her late return home while intoxicated.
Vincent Muema Ndunda appeared before Makadara Senior Resident Magistrate Stephanie Bett, where he pleaded not guilty to charges of causing grievous harm to his wife, Betty (not her real name). He was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000.
According to the complainant, she left their four-year-old daughter in Ndunda’s care that evening, informing him that she was visiting a friend. When she failed to return early, Ndunda went looking for her at a nearby pub, where he found her on a phone call with an unidentified person. A confrontation ensued when he demanded to know who she was speaking to.
The woman reportedly dropped her phone, which switched off. An enraged Ndunda returned home alone, only for his heavily intoxicated wife to follow shortly afterwards. The accused allegedly slapped her, causing her to fall. She briefly left for a friend’s nearby house, but Ndunda pursued her, accusing the friend of “spoiling” his wife.
Upon returning home, Ndunda allegedly beat his wife, accusing her of spending the night with other men. In a disturbing escalation, the complainant tore and removed her clothes, then allegedly bit her on the private parts, ear and hand.
Neighbours and Nyumba Kumi elders intervened and rescued the woman, rushing her to Nairobi Women’s Hospital for treatment. He denied the charges and was released on cash bail of Sh100,000, pending hearing on October 13.
