The government has deployed more than 1,000 police officers and activated a multi-agency security plan to ensure safety during the highly anticipated Safari Rally Kenya, which runs from March 12 to March 15 in Naivasha.

According to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, the deployment is part of a coordinated security framework aimed at safeguarding rally drivers, teams, spectators, and residents throughout the competition period.

Authorities said the security arrangement brings together several government agencies, including the National Police Service, the National Transport and Safety Authority, the Kenya National Highways Authority, and the National Government Administration Officers.

The move comes as thousands of local and international motorsport fans are expected to flock to rally viewing points across the Rift Valley region, particularly around Naivasha and Nakuru.

Ahead of the rally, the Kenya National Highways Authority issued a traffic advisory on Wednesday warning motorists to expect heavy traffic on major highways leading to Naivasha.

To ease congestion, the authority outlined several alternative routes for motorists travelling from Nairobi towards rally zones.

One option is the Scenic Route, which runs through Rironi, Flyover (Magumu), Njambini, Ol Kalou, Dundori and Lanet.

Motorists can also use the Adventure Route; travelling from Nairobi through Rironi, Naivasha, Engineer, Ol Kalou, Dundori and Lanet.

Other alternatives include the Thika Trail, which connects Nairobi through Thika and Magumu before joining Ol Kalou and Dundori. Drivers may also opt for the Suswa Shortcut, linking Nairobi through Ngong, Suswa, Narok and Nakuru.

In a statement, Luka Kimeli said the advisory will remain in effect throughout the rally period when thousands of fans are expected to travel to the region.

“The Authority continues to ensure your safety on all our highways,” Kimeli said.

KeNHA also issued a stern warning to truck drivers using the Naivasha–Nakuru highway, cautioning them against parking at undesignated locations during the rally period.

Authorities said any violation of the directive will lead to immediate arrest as the government seeks to prevent traffic disruptions along key transport corridors.
