PHOTOS: George Wajackoyah elated as son graduates from US Army programme

Former Roots Party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah is celebrating a proud family moment after his son, Obunga, graduated from a United States Army training programme in North Carolina.

Wajackoyah shared photos from the colourful ceremony held at Campbell University, which is known for its Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) programme that prepares students for leadership roles in the US military.

The outspoken lawyer and academic travelled to the United States to attend the event alongside relatives, friends and military officials, expressing joy over his son’s latest academic and military milestone.

“Today we attended the graduation of our son, Lieutenant Obunga, at Campbell University, North Carolina. We are praying that he will soon be commissioned as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army,” Wajackoyah wrote on social media.

He also encouraged his son to continue pursuing higher education as he advances in his military career.

“He has made us proud. A PhD is the way to go, Lieutenant, as you progress to the next rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army,” he added.

Photos shared online showed a jubilant Wajackoyah posing with family members and the newly graduated officer during the outdoor ceremony.

The post attracted congratulatory messages from Kenyans online, many praising Obunga’s achievement and Wajackoyah’s emphasis on education and discipline.

Some social media users also reflected on Wajackoyah’s difficult past, including his years in exile before returning to Kenya and venturing into politics.
