Peabo Bryson: Iconic voice behind Disney RNB classics dies at 75

R&B legend Peabo Bryson, whose powerful vocals became synonymous with some of Disney's most beloved songs, has died at the age of 75.

According to Variety, a statement released by his family said Bryson died on Tuesday evening surrounded by relatives and close loved ones.

While the family did not disclose an official cause of death, reports indicate the celebrated singer suffered a stroke over the weekend and had been receiving medical treatment before his passing.

Bryson enjoyed a remarkable music career spanning more than five decades, establishing himself as one of the most respected voices in R&B.

Over the years, he delivered a string of memorable hits that resonated with audiences worldwide, including Feel the Fire, I'm So Into You, Can You Stop the Rain, If Ever You're in My Arms Again and Reaching for the Sky.

His family paid tribute to his enduring impact on music and culture, saying, "For more than five decades, Peabo's extraordinary voice served as the soundtrack to some of life's most cherished moments."

They added, "His music carried generations through joyful celebrations, great love stories and enduring moments of comfort and inspiration, creating a legacy that will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him and the countless lives he touched through song."

Bryson's legacy was further cemented through his work on two iconic Disney soundtracks that earned him Grammy Awards in consecutive years.

In 1992, he won alongside Celine Dion for Beauty and the Beast, the title song from the animated classic.

A year later, he secured another Grammy with Regina Belle for A Whole New World from Aladdin. Both songs became defining musical moments for a generation of Disney fans.

As news of his death spread, his family expressed gratitude for the love and admiration shown to the singer over the years.

"While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit," the family said. "His legacy and music will live on for generations to come."

Just months before his death, Bryson remained active in music. He performed alongside Jeffrey Osborne at a concert in Georgia in May and was preparing for several dates on his upcoming Golden Touch Tour. In April, he celebrated his 75th birthday with family and friends, sharing photographs from the occasion on social media.
