PHOTOS: Thousands throng Bungoma streets to receive Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi team

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna received an energetic reception in Bungoma town as massive crowds surged into the venue to hear him address the region on Sunday.

The turnout in Bungoma came on the heels of another heavily attended stop in Sibanga and a spontaneous roadside fundraiser in Kiminini, signaling rapid momentum for the Linda Mwananchi tour across Western Kenya.

Thousands of supporters filled the streets, chanting his name as Sifuna arrived under security escort. The overwhelming turnout paralyzed traffic in parts of the town for several hours as residents jostled to catch a glimpse of the politician.

In Kiminini, residents paused the procession to conduct an impromptu cash drive for the movement. Sifuna received coins and notes in his cupped hands before passing a carton box through the crowd to collect further offerings.

Accompanied by Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and other brigade members, Sifuna addressed the Kiminini crowd from the top of his vehicle. He expressed deep gratitude for the spontaneous financial support from ordinary citizens.

"The people of Kiminini, I have counted the money you have contributed here today. I have the money in my hands. This money is enough to fuel our vehicles to Nairobi, Mombasa and Kitale," Sifuna said.

He noted that relying on small public contributions was far better than accepting funding from wealthy individuals who would later demand political favors. Sifuna recently turned down an offer by COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli to assist in raising Ksh 1 billion for his political campaigns.

Addressing the gathering in Bungoma later in the day, Sifuna told supporters that the loud voice of the common citizen could not be silenced by political intimidation.

The Linda Mwananchi movement has emerged as a distinct political faction within the opposition, positioning itself as a grassroots alliance aiming to challenge the current administration in the 2027 General Election.

Led by figures such as Sifuna, Governor Natembeya, and Siaya Governor James Orengo, the group seeks to consolidate political support starting from Western Kenya and Nyanza.

The emergence of the faction has exposed growing realignments within opposition politics as key figures maneuver for dominance ahead of 2027.
