Narok man fiercely fights police officer while allegedly trying to save dog from chopper blades

A dramatic scuffle between a man and a police officer in Tendwet, Narok, has gone viral after unfolding just metres from an active helicopter.

The footage shows a dog lingering dangerously close to the spinning blades before the man moves in, crouched low, appearing as though he may be trying to reach the animal.

A police officer stepped in, seemingly attempting to pull him back from the danger zone, and from their interaction, the man suddenly lashed out, thunderously slapping the officer.

The uniformed police officer responded to the barrage of slaps, and the two traded blows in full view of stunned onlookers until bystanders rushed in to separate them.

The dog, caught at the centre of the commotion, ultimately bolted away from the helicopter unharmed. Exactly what the man intended remains unclear, though many viewers believe he was attempting to rescue the pet from the spinning rotor.

Online, the clash has stirred a wave of emotion and heated debate. Some Kenyans argue the man acted recklessly, while others insist panic and instinct took over.

Lee Jaree criticised the reactions, saying, “Huyo askari anajaribu kuokoa huyo jamaa raia. Mko na akili duni sana, always negative.”

Isack Limo countered with a different interpretation: “But he was not heading to the chopper door, and he bent low to avoid rotor plates and rescue his dog, officer failure again.”

For Sammie Kyle, it all came down to confusion, “My thought is that he thought that this man might want to hang on the chopper … But it's a case of misunderstanding and overreaction.”

In May 2016, drama erupted in Bungoma town when a middle-aged man identified as Saleh Wanjala, alias Sambaka, who was wailing in anger over the killing of businessman Jacob Juma, hung precariously on a chopper as it took off.

The chopper had ferried the body of the slain businessman to Bungoma for public viewing before it was transported in a hearse to his Mungore village home in Bumula constituency.

Jacob Juma's body had been flown to Posta Ground for public viewing but was abruptly disrupted when the bizarre incident took place. Locals wailed as the man hung on the chopper.

The pilot who was leaving Posta ground for Eldoret had not noticed the unwelcome passenger, but the public made a lot of noise that attracted his attention.

He had to navigate through some hanging power lines to save the hanging passenger on board.

He was forced to take his unwanted passenger to Bungoma airstrip from Posta ground, where he descended and hovered a few metres over the runway, allowing the man to drop from the chopper, injuring himself on the spot.

Bungoma County Commissioner Mohamed Maalim confirmed that the culprit had been admitted at Bungoma County Referral Hospital under tight police watch.

"He has been rescued and is under police watch as he receives treatment at the local hospital. He will be charged in court of law once he recuperates for endangering his own life and that of the pilot," said Maalim.

Maalim continued: "He sustained serious injuries on the forehead and the legs due to heavy falling but he is in stable condition."
Locals castigated the man for endangering his own life.

Siboe said: "He was showing us a unique style of mourning the fallen hero Jacob Juma, but he went very far by displaying his stupidity. That was dangerous,"
