Grief as popular biker Gustavo, wife killed in grisly road accident: "Helmets up!"

The X community has been thrust into mourning after the sudden passing of motorcycle enthusiast Luhya Kidd Jnr, known online as Gustavo Rides, and his wife, following a road accident along Nairobi’s Northern Bypass.

Born Elvis Kamala, 29, and his wife, Diana Mwai, 28, died after their Ducati motorcycle collided with a Toyota Succeed near the Potter House barrier in Runda on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at about 4:30 pm.

The couple was travelling from Marurui towards Ruaka after attending the Safari Rally in Naivasha.

According to reports, witnesses said a vehicle was merging from UN Avenue onto the main road, prompting the motorcycle to crash into its right side.

Kamala reportedly sustained multiple fractures and died at the scene, while Mwai suffered severe head injuries and died on the way to the hospital.

Police officers responded to the scene and moved the bodies to the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue.

The couple, both popular on social media, leave behind a young child, according to friends.

Kamala began his biking journey in 2021, growing steadily within the biking community.

“We joined the biking world almost at the same time,” said friend Mbeche Samuel, who described him as supportive through his online engagement.

He later became a motorcycle dealer, riding bikes sourced from China, Japan and Germany, with his recent Ducati seen as a mark of his growth.

Friends and fellow riders described him as humble, friendly and inspiring, noting his ability to connect easily within the biking fraternity.

The tragedy has sparked an outpouring of grief online, with some users pointing to cryptic posts he shared hours before the accident.

“Asubui, he tweeted alive and grateful, ati saa hii Luhya man is no more,” wrote @sam_makokha.

“That death has really hit me. Rest in peace. Life can be this useless at times,” posted @DollarsDola.

Tributes have also renewed calls for road safety, with users urging caution among both riders and motorists.
