Shock as Nairobi thieves target Toyota Harrier grilles in coordinated robberies

A brazen broad daylight theft of Harrier grilles has exposed the effects of pinching economical times in the country that has since driven some individuals to result into unscrupulous acts.

Netizens were quick to share their sentiments on social media, @she is Imani, commented, “Yangu itabidi nieke shock hapo mbele thieves to stay guided”, @whos.cris, posted, “Wanataka kumaliza harrier ndani ya town”

The bizarre theft caught the internet’s attention after a high-definition dashcam footage captured a curated crew ripping the front grille off a Toyota Harrier along Parklands Road, near the University of Nairobi School of Law.

The ‘heist’, completed in seconds during traffic, immediately spread across social media and prompted outrage and curiosity.

The clip shows three suspects executing a seemingly rehearsed, tactical extraction. One thief deployed the mechanical know-how to detach the Harrier’s pricey grille, while the other two accomplices formed a seemingly human screen to obstruct motorists’ view and discourage intervention.

They vanished within moments, with several other Harrier motorists coming forward online to report similar cases.

With an estimated cost of Ksh 100,000, these stolen grilles are allegedly being re-sold illegally for quick, cheap money.

Harsh economic times grappling the country has reportedly pushed most Kenyans to the brink of poverty, with increased fuel prices/shortages being witnessed globally amid the Israeli-Irani-America conflict that directly affects Fuel.

Constant fare hikes and rising cost of living have since left many in wanting situations, and though the government had temporarily alleviated the gas prices, until few hours ago, the prices are back to an all-time high once more.
