Russia marked its National Day in Nairobi with a diplomatic reception bringing together diplomats, government officials, business leaders and members of the international community in a celebration that also highlighted growing Kenya–Russia relations.

The event attracted representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organisations, academia, the Russian diaspora and friends of Russia, reflecting what organisers described as strong and expanding bilateral ties.

Speaking during the reception, Russia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kenya, H.E. Vsevolod Tkachenko, noted the steady development of relations between the two countries, saying cooperation continues to grow across political, trade, economic, humanitarian, educational and cultural sectors.

He emphasised that the partnership is grounded in mutual respect, trust and a shared desire for beneficial collaboration.

The guest of honour, H.E. Josphat Maikara, Director-General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs at Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Affairs, reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with Russia.

He praised the momentum in bilateral cooperation and expressed interest in expanding engagement between the two nations.

A key highlight of the evening was the official launch of a commemorative postage stamp collection celebrating friendship between Kenya and Russia.

The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Postal Corporation of Kenya, symbolised the enduring diplomatic and cultural links between the two countries and was received as a gesture of goodwill and shared history.

The commemorative launch added a cultural and historical dimension to the event, underscoring the role of public institutions in strengthening international relations through symbolic and educational initiatives.

Guests were also treated to a cultural performance by the Russian folk ensemble “Khokhloma”, which showcased traditional music and dance, adding a vibrant artistic touch to the celebration.

In his closing remarks, Ambassador Tkachenko expressed appreciation to all attendees for their support and participation, noting that the strong turnout reflected the warmth of Kenya–Russia relations. He said the atmosphere of engagement demonstrated the enduring friendship between the two nations and confidence in the continued growth of cooperation for mutual benefit.
