Kenyans online went into a frenzy after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula was caught on camera sharing a warm and casual exchange with Kericho MCA Dora Keino.

The encounter took place at a fundraiser in Kipkelion East, organised to support the construction of churches across the Kapseger Zone, which comprises 16 churches. Wetangula was seated alongside Keino in the front row.

Observant netizens quickly noticed an exchange of contacts between the two leaders, instantly turning the moment into a viral sensation.

In the video, Keino can be seen engaging in a brief conversation with the Speaker before seemingly inputting something into her phone.

Wetangula is then seen checking his own phone, after which he turns it toward Keino, who nods, suggesting he may have been saving her number, before returning to his activities.

The clip quickly spread across social media, prompting both humour and speculation.

Keino later addressed the moment on Facebook, marvelling at how Kenyans can turn even the simplest interactions into trending topics.

She wrote jokingly, “So siezi salimia viongozi mnafanya natrend Kenya mzima,” a post that attracted a flurry of reactions.

Many netizens joined in with playful commentary directed at both Keino and Wetangula.

One joked, “Hata mimi singe waste hiyo chance… They say a man who sits beside a beautiful girl without telling her anything ends up fetching water at her wedding.”

Another added humorously, “Umefanya speaker hata haukuskia speech ya Aaron Cheruiyot.”

Some social media users urged Keino to ignore the naysayers. “Future is female. That is Networking. Hon Dorah Keino. Don't worry with the busy-body bloggers,” one wrote.

Another chimed in with support: “Hii mambo umezoea mweshimiwa Hon Dorah Keino, ulianza kutrend since our days in Kipsigis girls. So proud of you, always knew the future was bright for you.”

Speaker Moses Wetangula is no stranger to social media attention.

In 2016, he made headlines following reports of an alleged disagreement with his wife, which was said to have escalated physically.

In a later 2019 television interview, Wetangula declined to comment in detail, emphasising the sanctity of family, stating, “I have never spoken about it and I’m not going to talk about it. As an African man, family is sacred.”
