Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during a friendly match against Ukraine in Odense, prompting a dramatic halt to play and an urgent medical response.

The incident occurred in the 64th minute when the 34-year-old appeared to clutch his chest before falling to the ground, triggering immediate panic across the stadium, according to Sky Sports News.

Players and officials quickly signalled for medical assistance as team doctors rushed onto the field to administer emergency treatment.

In a poignant display of solidarity, both Danish and Ukrainian players formed a protective circle around the midfielder as medics worked to stabilise him.

The match was subsequently abandoned in the 65th minute with Denmark leading 2-1, following earlier goals from Patrick Dorgu and Joakim Mæhle, and a response from Ukraine’s Viktor Tsyhankov just before half-time.

However, football quickly became secondary to the unfolding medical emergency.

There was profound relief later in the evening when Eriksen was confirmed to have regained consciousness.

He was even able to walk to the waiting ambulance before being taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

"He recovered consciousness quickly, and initial signs are reassuring," team doctor Morten Boesen told the outlet, adding that he was in direct contact with the player but would await further hospital assessments to determine the cause of the collapse.

The mid-game collapse has revived deep concern over the veteran midfielder's health, coming five years after he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during Euro 2020.

The incident immediately triggered a massive wave of reaction from fans and commentators online, overshadowing a broader week of international football that has seen several key players face major injury setbacks during final World Cup preparations.
