Justice Bahati Mwamuye upheld Kenya's ban on bhang, ruling that the petition lacked merit, that cannabis use was not proved to be an essential element of the Rastafari faith.
"Every time I walk on the street, someone will come and want to intimidate me and say, 'Hey Rastaman, stop'," said Moses Mudachi Isavwa, who goes by his Rastafarian name of Ras Masinde.
The community is challenging Cannabis Sativa’s prohibition laws in the High Court, arguing that the plant, deemed as a holy sacrament, is allegedly essential to their spiritual worship and meditation.
The Rastafari Society emphasised that cannabis, locally known as bhang, is a sacred herb central to worship, meditation, and spiritual growth.
