Twenty-two pedestrians have been arraigned in court for failing to use the footbridge at the busy Allsops footbridge along Nairobi's Thika Road.
In a statement shared on its social media platforms, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) said the arrests are part of a wider enforcement campaign targeting unsafe pedestrian behaviour, which it says continues to contribute significantly to road crashes and fatalities.
The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police Service (NPS) and the Nairobi City County Government.
According to NTSA, the agencies will continue conducting public education campaigns to encourage safer road use while enforcing traffic laws against offenders.
A total of 22 pedestrians have been arraigned in court for willfully obstructing the free flow of traffic at Allsops footbridge.
The Authority in collaboration with NPS and the Nairobi City County will continue educating pedestrians on safe road use.

The crackdown comes amid growing concern over the rising number of pedestrians involved in road accidents across Kenya.
NTSA said that as of June 30, 2026, pedestrians accounted for 38 per cent of all road traffic fatalities, describing the trend as alarming.
"The Authority, in collaboration with the National Police Service and the Nairobi City County, will continue educating pedestrians on safe road use," NTSA said.
The agency said reducing pedestrian deaths requires a collective effort, urging motorists, pedestrians, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to work together to promote road safety.
"As the primary road users, pedestrian compliance is vital," the authority said, adding that pedestrians should always use footbridges and designated crossing points instead of risking their lives by crossing busy highways.
Allsops, along the heavily trafficked Thika Superhighway, has long been identified as one of Nairobi's road safety hotspots, with many pedestrians choosing to cross the highway instead of using the footbridge despite the obvious dangers.
The latest enforcement action underscores the government's renewed focus on improving road safety through a combination of public awareness campaigns and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.
