Roads CS Kipchumba Murkomen has defended his expensive lifestyle, especially his love for classy and expensive watches and designer shoes.

Murkomen said that his current status is the fruit of hard work having been raised in a humble background.

The CS has earned the reputation of being one the most expensively dressed government officials, however, his latest sense of fashion has raised sharp reactions from  Kenyans who are struggling to make ends meet.

Speaking at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) during the university's 20th graduation, Murkomen said he was shocked to see people on social media discussing his expensive watch, shoes, and what he wears, stating that his life began from a humble beginning where he had to work hard to make it in life.

Murkomen added that he has achieved what he has because he worked hard during his childhood.

“I saw on social media people debating on the shoe and watch I wear, but I asked my wife, is that me? Again I asked my sister is that us who have made it to this level?" said Murkomen.

The CS added that his love for nice watches started while he was in primary school and his father told him to study hard so that he could buy him a beautiful watch.

“I was joking to my friends that if they looked at the photo I had taken while in primary school I had a very beautiful watch but getting that watch was very difficult, my father told me he would buy me a watch if I became number one in our class,” said Murkomen.

“I read so hard day and night and when the results came I missed number one with two marks but out of sympathy my father bought me a beautiful watch and I think that is where my love for beautiful watches started from.”

Since being appointed as CS, Murkomen has left Kenyans' bandwagon over his classy and expensive accessories, shoes, and clothes.

On February 2, Murkomen hosted Silvio Albuquerque, the Brazilian ambassador to Kenya, at his office, Kenyans spotted the politician’s Hublot Classic Fusion Ceramic King Gold watch.

The Hublot is a brand that needs no introduction and according to Hublot, the watch will set you back Sh2 million. Renowned for its impeccable craftsmanship and innovative designs, Hublot has created a niche in the world of haute horology. The Classic Fusion Ceramic King Gold watch is a perfect embodiment of the brand's commitment to excellence.

On August 26, Murkomen was spotted wearing Gucci sneakers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after a power blackout.

The CS was spotted wearing a dark t-shirt, light khakis, and distinct white, blue, and black sneakers with grey Gucci accents worth over Sh130,000.

According to the Gucci website, the Italy-made shoes should be maintained by keeping them away from direct light, heat and rain.

In June, Murkomen bragged about how he shopped at a high-end boutique in Yaya Centre that stocks imported designer suits after he was spotted with a pricey Hublot watch.
