A 31-year-old casual labourer from Kasarani has been released on a cash bail of Sh80,000 after pleading not guilty to a charge of causing grievous harm.
Joshua Wesonga Mubweka denied unlawfully injuring James Mungare by breaking one of his upper incisors when he appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Stephanie Bett.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on January 17, 2026, at about 11.37 pm in Kasarani Sub-County.
The prosecution told the court that Mungare was walking home with a friend when they encountered a dog standing in the middle of the road. Startled, Mungare reportedly scooped soil from the roadside and threw it at the animal to scare it away.
The dog fled while barking and ran back to its owner, Mubweka. Prosecutors said Mubweka rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion and became angry upon realising that the person who had frightened his dog was someone he knew. He allegedly claimed the dog had been traumatised.
In a fit of rage, Mubweka is accused of picking up a stone and striking Mungare in the mouth, knocking out one of his upper incisors. The complainant further alleged that he sustained additional injuries to his neck, face and back during the assault.
The court heard that Mungare spent nearly an hour searching for the broken tooth on the ground due to the darkness before reporting the matter to the authorities and seeking medical treatment.
Mubweka was later arrested and arraigned in court.
Magistrate Bett granted the accused a cash bail of Sh80,000, with an alternative bond of Sh100,000 and a similar surety. The case will be heard on July 20, 2026.
