DJ Krowbar shares pain of almost calling late wife after school visit

DJ Krowbar has  shared how he was recently struck by grief this week in a quiet but deeply painful moment at his son’s school after a routine parent-teacher meeting.

As he left the school, he shares, he instinctively almost reached for his phone to call his late wife and share the usual update on their child’s progress, only to remember she was no longer there.

“Just left my son's school... Went for the parent teacher meeting. I was just about to call my wife and give her the report as I usually did. Hiyo imenigonga hard. Mungu mbele,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The post saw messages of sympathy, prayers, and encouragement from fans.

DJ Krowbar’s wife, Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, affectionately known as Joy, passed away on January 26, 2026, after a prolonged battle with chronic kidney failure.

She had undergone a kidney transplant in mid-2025 and faced multiple medical complications afterwards.

Early this year, her condition worsened, after a brief discharge, leading to re-admission for further care. but unfortunaltely succumbed in January.

Weeks later, DJ Krowbar continues to balance single parenthood while maintaining his career as a DJ and sound engineer in Nairobi.

Fans and fellow artists have rallied around him, offering words of encouragement and understanding. One supporter wrote, “It takes time... you just learn to live with it,” while another echoed his own words: “Mungu mbele.”

"She will always be with you in spirit. She knows how much you loved her and it's evident she loved you too. Just be strong for the kids. Her body left but her spirit will always be there for you. Be strong sir," another one noted.
