President William Ruto has issued a stern warning against any acts of violence, destruction of property, or disruption of public services ahead of the June 25 memorial protests scheduled for next week.

Speaking on Friday during the National Productivity and Performance Conference at State House, Nairobi, the President stressed the need for the country to remain focused on order, productivity, and national development even as citizens exercise their constitutional rights.

Ruto noted that while the government fully recognizes and protects the right of Kenyans to demonstrate and express their grievances, such freedoms should not be used as a cover for lawlessness or actions that could undermine the country's economic and social stability.

“It is right for every citizen who has an issue to petition or to protest and we must protect their right to do so, the one thing that is not going to happen is that people will be mobilised to destroy property or to cause chaos or mayhem, that will not happen,” he stated.

The President's remarks come amid growing political tensions and heightened public debate surrounding the planned commemoration of the June 25 anti-government protests, which have become a significant moment in Kenya's recent political history. Security agencies are already on high alert amid expectations of demonstrations in Nairobi and other major urban centres across the country.

At the same time, the United States Embassy in Kenya has issued a security advisory to American citizens, cautioning them about the possibility of demonstrations taking place in various parts of the country, particularly in Nairobi's Central Business District and other major towns.

In the advisory released on Thursday, the embassy warned that protests could occur with little notice, although the likelihood of demonstrations is expected to increase around the June 25 anniversary.

The embassy further cautioned that any protests could result in significant traffic disruptions, congestion, and roadblocks set up by both demonstrators and law enforcement officers.

The advisory urged American citizens to remain vigilant, monitor local media for updates, avoid areas where demonstrations may occur, and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
