Mathare MP's tongue-slip moment sparks laughter at Ichung'wah's father's burial

Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch provided a light moment during the burial of Mzee Isaac Ichung'wah, father to National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah, after accidentally confusing the two names.

Addressing mourners gathered at Gikambura in Kikuyu constituency, Mr. Oluoch concluded his remarks by saying: "May God rest the soul of Mzee Kimani Ichung'wah in peace, thank you!"

The slip drew instant laughter from the crowd, with Mr. Ichung'wah quickly halting him before he left the podium.

Returning to clarify, the MP joked: "Sorry! May God rest the soul of the father of Kimani Ichung'wah in peace. I have not sent him home. Na Atwoli alisema atakuwa president, na mimi nitakuwa deputy wake."

The burial, held Monday, was attended by President William Ruto, First Lady Rachel Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and many other dignitaries.

Mzee Isaac Ichung'wah Ngugi, who died peacefully at his Kikuyu home aged 105, was remembered by Ichungwah as a humble, polite and multilingual gentleman.

Speakers eulogized him as a man whose legacy extended beyond his family to the wider community.
