PHOTOS: DCP-allied senators don matching green blazers at Parliament after Ol-Kalou victory

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) brought its post-election celebrations to Parliament on Tuesday as senators allied to former DP Rigathi Gachagua made a striking entrance into the Senate chambers dressed in coordinated party colours.

Senators Joe Nyutu, Kamau Murango, Karungo Thang'wa, John Methu, John Kinyua Nderitu and Kanar Seki arrived wearing matching bright green blazers, white shirts and dusty rose ties.

The legislators walked together through the Parliament precincts before making their way into the chamber. Along the route, some acknowledged colleagues and supporters by raising a single index finger, a gesture associated with 'one term'.

Their appearance came days after DCP candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru secured a landslide victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

The party has since used the win to signal growing political ground ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Inside the Senate, the lawmakers' entrance briefly stole the spotlight. As they entered, fellow senators stamped their feet in approval, creating a lively atmosphere that interrupted proceedings.

The reaction prompted Senator Mwenda Gataya, who was addressing the House at the time, to seek intervention from the presiding officer.

"Honourable Speaker, can you protect me from those interruptions?" asked Gataya, drawing laughter across the chamber before proceedings resumed.

The green blazers, matching DCP's official colours, marked one of the clearest public displays of party identity in Parliament since its formation.

For the party, the Ol Kalou result has been framed as a defining milestone for the Mt Kenya region.

Addressing supporters in Ol Kalou, Gachagua defended the ongoing celebrations, saying they represented a broader political message.

"The results of the by-election in Ol Kalou are one of the biggest political milestones in the Mountain," Gachagua said.

"I have seen Kenya Kwanza-allied politicians crying that we are celebrating too much because of one election. We are celebrating what it means and what it has proven for the country."

He argued that the outcome demonstrated voters could not be swayed by money or state machinery.

"There has been a perception that the government would buy the people of Kenya and get another term. We will continue to celebrate for a long time," he added.
