Netizens have been commenting on social media after an old video of Khalif Kairo calling out conmen resurfaced online.
In an interview on the Iko Nini podcast, he stated that earning money illegally does not help anyone in the long run.
This is ironic, as he was in the spotlight for fraudulent charges earlier this year. Khalif Kairo was accused of fraud and pleaded not guilty to two counts on January 28.
“People need to know, conmen hawananga pesa. As much as they try, they don’t have real money, and it normally catches up with them. They might have money to show off online by hiring G-Wagons and washing their hands with expensive alcohol in clubs,” Kairo said.
He added, “However, this is not sustainable. One thing that is sustainable is a legitimate business. Mi ile foundation naweka sa ii, like Kai & Karo.com, we are reaching up to 150,000 users per month,” he said, unaware of what would happen in the future.”
On the first charge, he allegedly used tricks to convince Mr Jeff Kyule Munane to pay Sh2.1 million for a car he did not deliver. The money was allegedly sent to his company, Kai & Karo Car Dealership, but he failed to honour the agreement.
In the second count, he was accused of receiving Sh2.98 million from Ms Dora Okoth for the purchase of a Subaru Outback. However, Kairo did not deliver the vehicle, to her surprise. The two fraudulent cases reportedly took place between 10 July 2024 and 25 July 2024 in Westlands, Nairobi.
This was not all for the city car dealer, Joseph Kairo Wambui, as another charge was added. He was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts after being accused of acquiring Sh3 million in yet another car deal.
“But if I was stealing money from people, ningekuwa nakimbizana na DCI. Stolen money has a limit. There’s a point you reach, try to rise, and the universe pulls you back down. But money that is earned genuinely and legally lasts longer,” Khalif said in the old video, sparking conversations among netizens.

The video has resurfaced just days after his former business partner, Clement Kinuthia, opened up about their fallout.
Speaking on the Iko Nini podcast, Clement shared WhatsApp screenshots alleging that Khalif Kairo ruined his marriage.
In the messages, Khalif reportedly texted Clement’s wife and accused him of infidelity. He allegedly did this while he was in Japan, causing strain in their relationship.
According to the screenshots, Khalif Kairo informed Clement’s wife that he had been unfaithful for over a year and that the woman, named Sylvia, was her close friend.
Car dealer Clement Kinuthia stated that Kairo’s allegations had taken a toll on him both at home and at work. “I had to fight battles at work and at home. The cheating claims did not sit well with my wife,” he said.
Following his case, Kairo pleaded with Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina to release him on a personal bond of Sh3 million, arguing that he had already spent two days in custody. Mr Onyina granted his application and released his passport, allowing him to travel to the USA to source the money. The court agreed that it was unnecessary to restrict his freedom of movement.
Khalif Kairo’s lawyers, Cliff Ombeta, Danstan Omari, and Martina Swiga, argued that he was being targeted by business rivals. Defence lawyer Omari added that he had not stolen from his clients, as he had signed contracts to import the cars from abroad.
Comments from X users regarding the resurfaced video have been flooding in, with one user stating, “Psychological projection. Conmen sometimes talk about conmen to divert suspicion from themselves. Ruthless Focus did it too. This is a classic manipulation tactic, making it harder for anyone to suspect them. You have to give it to them for mastering this tactic.” Another added, “OH SHOOT!!!! This actually happened??? Man, oh man. Scripted to the T!”
