Chadwick Boseman's brothers seek to remove widow from Sh387m estate

A bitter legal dispute has erupted within the family of late actor Chadwick Boseman, with his brothers moving to have his widow stripped of control over his multi-million dollar estate.

Kevin and Derrick Boseman filed court documents in Los Angeles asking a judge to hold Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman in contempt and remove her as administrator, according to People.

Chadwick, best known for playing T'Challa in Marvel's Black Panther, died of colon cancer in August 2020 without a will.

A 2022 court ruling split the estate equally between Taylor and Chadwick's parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman.

In the new filings, the brothers claim Taylor has failed to distribute remaining assets four years after the ruling while managing everything independently.

"She has kept the wider family completely in the dark," the documents seen by People state, adding that Chadwick’s parents have been left without funds they are legally entitled to.

The estate includes film royalties, intellectual property, bank accounts containing over $3 million, and a long-term care insurance policy that was supposed to go to his mother.

Kevin and Derrick allege that residual payments from SAG-AFTRA earned after Chadwick's death remain unaccounted for, blocking the family from pursuing business opportunities tied to his legacy.

They are asking the court to appoint independent attorney Jason Rubin as the new administrator within 30 days.

"We want her barred from signing significant contracts involving his estate without family approval," the brothers stated in their petition.

They also requested the court compel Taylor to provide a full financial accounting and cover their legal costs.

Neither Taylor nor her legal team has formally responded to the court filing.

Chadwick, best known for playing T'Challa in Marvel's Black Panther, died in August 2020 at age 43 following a private four-year battle with stage IV colon cancer.

Diagnosed in 2016, he endured multiple surgeries and chemotherapy while continuing to film major Hollywood productions, keeping his diagnosis secret from the public until his passing without leaving a will.

Before his superhero fame, Boseman built a distinguished career playing iconic real-life figures, including Jackie Robinson in 42, James Brown in Get on Up, and Thurgood Marshall in Marshall, culminating in a posthumous Oscar nomination for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.
