A businesswoman has been arraigned in court accused of sexually assaulting her friend after allegedly spiking her drinks during a matatu workers’ strike.
Sharon Cherono appeared before the court facing charges arising from an incident said to have occurred on May 19 at the complainant’s home. Court documents state that Cherono allegedly assaulted the victim after the two consumed alcohol together.
The complainant told the court that Cherono asked to be hosted, saying she was travelling to source stock for her business and required accommodation due to the ongoing strike. The complainant agreed and the two spent time together.
They later bought and drank alcohol. The complainant says she lost consciousness and later woke up to find both of them naked and in severe pain.
She alleges that Cherono became violent when questioned, kicking, slapping and biting her on the buttocks and limbs before leaving with her two mobile phones, which were later returned.
The complainant further claims Cherono admitted to previously drugging her during earlier drinking encounters and that she had spiked her drinks again on the day in question.
The complainant’s lawyer told the court she was deeply traumatised, hospitalised for two weeks and has since lost her job.
Cherono’s defence dismissed the claims as unsubstantiated. She was released on Sh100,000 cash bail with an alternative bond of Sh200,000 as the case awaits mention.
