Litein: Mama mboga arrested after fatally stabbing car washer during late-night fight

Residents of Litein were left in shock after a late-night confrontation between a vegetable vendor and a car washer turned deadly.

Police say the 23-year-old suspect, identified as Tashamilla Cherotich, allegedly stabbed 28-year-old Barnabas Kiprotich Bett in the chest during a heated altercation at around 8:30 p.m. on Monday near Stabex Petrol Station, Chemitan area, Bureti Sub-County.

According to Litein OCPD Benedict Chirchir, Cherotich allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab Bett on the upper chest, near the shoulder, before fleeing the scene.

"Members of the public rushed him to AIC Litein Mission Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival," Chirchir confirmed.

The suspect was later flushed out from a plot just 150 metres from the scene by residents who attempted to lynch her. She was rescued by police officers and immediately taken into custody.

Cherotich later led detectives to a napier grass plantation, where she had tossed the blood-stained knife believed to have been used in the attack. The weapon was recovered and secured as evidence.

DCI officers and Litein police processed both the crime scene and the hospital, confirming that Bett had sustained a fatal stab wound.

The suspect is now being held at Litein Police Station and will be arraigned once investigations conclude. Meanwhile, Bett's body has been preserved at the AIC Litein Mission Hospital mortuary pending postmortem.

Elsewhere, a Cuban national, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, was arrested in Dallas, Texas, after allegedly beheading motel manager Chandra Nagamallaiah in front of his family.

CCTV footage circulating on social media shows Cobos-Martinez leaving a motel room, pulling out a machete, and attacking the unsuspecting victim.

Nagamallaiah, 50, tried to flee, screaming for help, as his wife and son rushed outside.

The attacker pursued him, striking repeatedly before decapitating him. Witnesses reported that Cobos-Martinez then threw the victim's severed head into a trash can, an act captured both on surveillance and by bystanders' cameras.

According to an affidavit obtained by CNN, the incident began after Nagamallaiah, speaking through a translator, asked Cobos-Martinez not to use a broken washing machine. The suspect, who worked at the motel, allegedly flew into a rage over the exchange.

Dallas police confirmed that Cobos-Martinez has been charged with capital murder by terror threat and is being held without bond.
