Kieru dedicates Nyahururu win to his wife

Handicap 10, Kieru Wambui was all smiles after grabbing Avocado Exporters Golf Series, Nyahururu Sports Club overall title on Sunday.

Kieru amassed a total of 41 stableford points to lift the title at the high altitude 18-hole course.

The tournament was sponsored by Avocado Exporters Association of Kenya, MoFarm, Wintech Merchants, Riziki Exporters and Tyrobel.

Others were Isuzu Motors, Silafrica, Eshet Eilon, Opulence, Mountain View, Benta Fresh, Saipei and Farmers Fresh.

The tournament was meant to provide farmers and other stakeholders in the industry with a networking opportunity while enjoying a round of golf.

Kieru denied another handicap 10, Samwel Mwangi the podium honors by a solitary point as Mwangi won Men winner prize on a score of 40 stableford points.

“I’m elated with this win and I dedicate it to my lovely wife (Susan Kieru) who has been patient with me as I pursue and enjoy my round of golf from time to time,” Kieru said in his speech. 

Leading the ladies prize onslaught was Lucy Maina playing off handicap 16 who carded 33 stableford points ahead of Lady winner second M Hellen who carded a score of 32 stableford points.

Shooting the lowest gross score in the tournament that saw several single handicapper gunning for the Gross prize was evergreen home elite golfer Cyrus Lwenyi playing off handicap 1 with 34 stableford points.

Another top elite golfer, Boniface Waikwa playing off handicap 5 took home Men winner third prize on a superb score of 39 stableford points.

In the nines, Paul Kimita won First nine prize with 22 stableford points while Richard Kingori won Second nine prize with 20 stableford points.

Nearest to the Pin prize went to Musili Saipee while Junior winner prize was won by a handicap 23 Richard Kingori with 28 stableford points.

Kieru was back again as he won the Longest Drive Men prize. H Manyara was declared Longest Drive Lady winner.

In the team contest, MoFarm ‘s ensemble of Mwaura Muiru, Chege Macharia, BM Waikwa and Job Gitau won.

Coming in second in was Benta Fresh Fruits team of, Njuguna Thairu, Club Chairman Kieru Wambui, Lady Captain Susan Hiuko and George Munene

While Team Riziki consisted of Richard Gachanja (junior), Cyrus Lwenyi, Gitahi Mahinda and Fr Paul Maina were third placed.

While the pros who graced the tournament, Simon Ngige, Mike Kisia, Sullivan Muthugia, Mabea and Peter Rimui had a Sh100,000 purse to share amongst themselves.
