The Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) has strongly condemned the alleged bullying and sexual harassment witnessed at Brown’s Food Company in Tigoni, Limuru.

In a statement on Friday, July 7, the human resource firm said that the behavior by a HR officer went against the Human Resource Code of conduct and ethics, and if found culpable, appropriate action will be taken.

“The Institute of Human Resource Management is deeply concerned and shocked by the alleged bullying and sexual harassment carried out by the Quality Assurance Manager and Human Resource Officer against female employees working at Brown’s Food Company in Tigoni,” said the Institution’s Executive Director, Quresha Abdullahi.

“These bullying and harassment allegations violate laws in the Constitution among other laws, the National Employment Policy, and the Human Resource Management Professionals Code of Conduct and Ethics.”

IHRM further said it is investigating the alleged harassment, and will work with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and other agencies to look into the matter and avert similar situations in future.

“The Institute strongly condemns this unprofessional conduct by the HR professional who is alleged to have harassed the female employees and assures the members of the public that the alleged acts shall be investigated and appropriate disciplinary action be taken if found culpable.”

The statement comes a day after police in Limuru arrested three senior managers at Brown Cheese Company, among them the Human Resource personnel, who were linked to an incident where female employees were allegedly forced to strip naked at work after a used sanitary towel was found disposed in the wrong bin.

The three are still in police custody are expected to appear in court today.
