Victor Wanyama, McDonald Mariga in mourning after mother dies

Kenyan football legends McDonald Mariga and his younger brother Victor Wanyama are in mourning following the passing of their mother, Mildred Wanyama. 

Mariga shared the sad news on his official X account, stating:

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, who left us peacefully today morning. We are currently making arrangements and will share more details soon! Thank you.”

According to the family, she succumbed due to illness and they assured more details will follow soon. 

The Wanyamas represent one of Kenya's most accomplished sporting families in Kenya. 

Their father, Noah Wanyama, was a professional footballer who played for A.F.C. Leopards and represented Kenya internationally.

Mariga, on the other hand, now is the FKF Vice President who has also built an impressive career playing for prestigious European clubs including Inter Milan and Parma in Italy's top division.

His brother Victor was the captain of Kenya's national team, the Harambee Stars, and enjoyed successful stints with premier English clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton, as well as Scottish giants Celtic.

Their younger brothers Thomas and Sylvester also pursue professional football careers, while their sister Mercy is a basketball player.

The sporting fraternity and fans at large have poured their condolences as they await further details from the famil.
