An estranged husband is in legal trouble after admitting to causing a disturbance and damaging a window after being denied access to his ex-wife's home, where his children also live.
Patrick Karobia Muchendu appeared before Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Rotich, where he denied breaking the window, but admitted creating a disturbance outside the residence.
According to the charge sheet, Karobia, who had separated from his wife, Grace Karambu Nkuri, visited her home in Mwiki Township on the night of August 29, at around 3 am.
He allegedly knocked at the door while shouting that he wanted to see her, insisting she was still his wife. Karambu, who spotted him through the window and believed he was drunk, refused to open the door out of fear.
Enraged, Karobia reportedly hurled abusive language throughout the early morning. Around 5 am, as Karambu prepared to go to work and escort her daughter to school, she found Karobia still seated outside the door.
When she opened it, he attempted to force his way in, but was blocked by their son. She quickly locked the door and left.
Karobia is accused of then smashing a window, collecting the broken glass, and vowing to stab her when she returned. His son advised Karambu to report the matter before going back home.
In court, Karobia admitted he was drunk at the time and claimed, "She is the only wife I have; we are not truly separated as I often meet her."
The court ordered a pre-bail report to be filed within 14 days. The case will be mentioned on September 18.
