Video: Oscar Sudi fiercely clashes with priest during aunt's burialKapseret MP Oscar Sudi, today, got into a heated debate with a catholic priest who attempted to curb political remarks during the burial ceremony of his aunt Mama Pauline Chelimo Kipkore.

At the graveside, Sudi was quoted telling:

“Mimi nataka niombe Kanisa tafadhali kwa heshima kubwa, hatujakuja kufrahi hapa na huyu senge nimeteseka naye sana, tunataka tumpatie heshima.”

(“I would like to ask the Church, please, with great respect, we have not come here to celebrate; I have suffered with her greatly and we want to give her the dignity she deserves.”)

He further went ahead and challenged the priest to step aside if he was short of time.

“Nakama padri huna time tuko na padre wengine hapa unaweza enda padre mwingine aendelee.”

(“Padre, if you don’t have time, there are other priests here you can leave and another priest can continue,”) he said.

But as the burial ceremony progressed, Sudi would also take the microphone again and apologise to the clergyman.

“Mimi naomba msamaha, kama nilikukosea mahali Father nisamehe ndio tuweze kuzika senge yetu kwa njia ya Amani,” he said while bowing before the priest.

"I ask for forgiveness, Father, if I wronged you in any way. Please forgive me so that we can lay our aunt to rest in peace."

Sudi eulogised his aunt as a loving and caring family matriarch whose legacy will forever live in people’s hearts.

“Her kindness, generosity, and warmth touched the lives of everyone she met. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.

This is not the only time Oscar Sudi has clashed with a priest at a burial. Last year, Uasin Gishu county: A no-nonsense Catholic cleric could not condone politics at some point in a funeral event in Kesses.

Sudi was among the leaders joining mourners in the send-off of Mzee David Kogo, father of Rivertex managing director Thomas Kipkurgat.

And when he got the chance to speak, the priest quickly interjected and challenged him to preach the gospel for once instead of full-time politicking.
