Politicians in blame-game as criminals raid top brass

Kisii has been experiencing several insecurity incidents in the past three months, with politicians pointing fingers at each other.

The well-organised criminals seem to be targeting senior civil servants and politicians’ homes.

In one of the incidents, the thugs left behind a jungle police uniform and some crude weapons.

A director with the Ministry of Interior and her husband, a director in the Kisii county government, were attacked at their government houses within the Kisii Agricultural Training College.

The family was again attacked a month later, with the husband sustaining serious injuries.

In the two incidents, the attackers used homemade guns. They cut through the window panes and took away victims’ phones. Police later tracked the phones and found them in Nyabioto area and the other to Kisii town CBD before they were switched off.

In another incident, two weeks ago, Bobaracho MCA Ibrahim Ongubo was attacked at his home, less than 4km from Kisii town.

The MCA linked his attack to politics. The gang shot in the air before fleeing.

Since then, police have been questioning five people said to have been linked to the attacks.

County Commander Charles Kasses said they will not spare anybody in the investigations.

“The investigations will continue. We will not spare anybody, nor will we take a political angle. The investigating officers will do their work as required.”
