A businesswoman got herself on the wrong side of the law after she was arrested and arraigned in court over claims that she attempted to kill a woman said to be married by a man she had been seeing.
In the case of attempted murder, Nduta Wangai aged 36 years old is said to have unlawfully attempted to run over Rebecca Ngumi with the intention to kill her by trying to knock her down with a motor vehicle on January 5, 2024, at Ridgeways estate in Starehe Sub-County, Nairobi.
In the second count, Nduta was charged with the offence of malicious damage to Ngumi’s property worth Sh1 million during the duo’s fight.
On the material day, Ngumi was getting ready for work when she heard a knock on the main gate. She asked the house girl to check who it was and she learnt that Nduta was the one at the gate and she wanted to talk to her husband.
Ngumi then informed her husband who went outside the gate to talk to Nduta but failed to reach an agreement. The enraged Nduta then hit the gate using her vehicle.
Ngumi, who had accompanied her husband, started running for her safety after she heard Nduta vow that she would kill her while attempting to run over her but she took cover before Nduta caught up with her.
When she missed to hit Ngumi, she is alleged to have splashed a substance suspected to be acid on her.
According to court papers, Nduta reversed several times just to hit Ngumi but her attempts were futile. However, Ngumi’s Mercedes Benz was damaged, as well as her gate and garage wall which were broken.
Nduta pleaded not guilty before Senior Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwani of Makadara Law Court and was released on a bond of Sh1 million pending hearing on July 4 this year.
