Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was treated to a delightful surprise birthday celebration that left him visibly emotional and smiling ear to ear.

The event, captured in a viral Instagram video, showed the former Head of State reacting with genuine shock as guests broke into song to wish him a happy 64th birthday on Sunday.

Dressed in a blue and black shirt with matching trousers, Uhuru placed his hand over his mouth in disbelief as the crowd sang “Happy Birthday.” Then on his head, moves that have been turned into memes by netizens.

Standing beside him were his wife Margaret Kenyatta, elegantly adorned in a blue and white dress with a matching head wrap and purse, and his brother Muhoho Kenyatta, among other family and friends.

The special moment was orchestrated by Sameera Merllahi, the founder of Sanaa Events, who led the planning and décor for the occasion.

The surprise reached its peak when a pair of newlyweds walked up to Uhuru carrying a white and blue birthday cake, ushering him to cut it as the guests cheered and sang along.

A smiling Uhuru was seen shaking Sameera’s hand in appreciation, acknowledging her team’s effort in pulling off the heartwarming surprise.

The video quickly made rounds on social media, with Kenyans flooding Instagram with birthday wishes and admiration for the former president’s lighthearted demeanor.

“Aaawwww... He is such a happy soul and deserves this,” wrote Nikita.

“He is truly surprised and his reaction is so cool,” commented Makena.

In a humorous tone, Dennoh joked, “Ako zile za wawawa, hamkusema nikam kama nimepiga uji.”

Others expressed fond nostalgia for the country’s former leader.

“Was smiling from ear to ear watching this, simply beautiful. Happy birthday Jayden, the ex that never left,” wrote Pauline Wainaina, using Uhuru’s popular nickname.

Karanja Kiragu added, “This man is ever smiling and happy. Happy birthday to you, mzee.”

Born in 1961 to Kenya’s founding president Jomo Kenyatta and Mama Ngina Kenyatta, Uhuru is the second-born in his family, with siblings Christine, Anna Nyokabi, and Muhoho Kenyatta.

He is married to Margaret Gakuo Kenyatta, and together they have three children; Jomo, Jaba, and Ngina Kenyatta.
