Kenyan artiste and businessman KRG the Don (real name Stephen Karuga Kimani) appears to be getting serious about his political ambitions.
The “Mambo Imechemka” hitmaker has set his sights on the Nairobi Senator seat in the upcoming 2027 General Elections.
The 34-year-old star, known for his flashy lifestyle and hit records, first hinted at the move in his song “Leo”.
Now, he has taken things up a notch after posting a photo on Instagram standing beside Siaya Governor James Orengo, adding fuel to speculation about his next big chapter.
In the photo, KRG is seen rocking a purple African Dashiki shirt, white pants, and a black Godfather hat, while Governor Orengo sported a blue floral shirt. But it was KRG’s caption that got Kenyans talking:
“Governor wa Siaya Hon. James Orengo na Senator wa Nairobi (2027) Hon. Stephen Karuga Kimani,” he wrote.
The post quickly sparked mixed reactions online, with many surprised by his political declaration.
KRG has maintained a relatively low profile in recent months, explaining that his break from music was intentional; a move to let other artists shine.
“Wacha nipatie wengine washine,” he previously said in an interview.
The “Ushasema” and “Mathogothanio” singer emphasized that his influence extends beyond music, pointing to his successful business ventures and investments that have earned him a reputation as one of Kenya’s wealthiest performers.
