A viral video has sparked outrage on social media after a man was seen rampaging through a food stall in Umoja, Nairobi, destroying containers of food and drinks.

In the footage, the man kicks and smashes a popcorn machine, juice chiller, and other equipment while only one witness stands behind the counter.

At one point, a bystander briefly chases him with what appears to be a stick, causing the man to leave momentarily before returning to continue the destruction.

CCTV footage captured the incident, showing the man in a grey hoodie, blue jersey, and black pants.

The brazen act has provoked a storm of reactions online.

Zeus Mungai wrote on Instagram, "Report the guy, there's evidence and he's going to pay for everything brand new."

Japho added, "Hapa ndio mtu hufungwa 40 years for destruction of property with no remorse then familia inaanza kutulilia ... hii ni roho chafu sana."

Renowned Kenyan fashion designer Nimrod Nick commented, "I can smell bitterness and jealousy through this video."

Instagram user Alex Lister wrote, "Huyu ananiongeza tu hasira!!! And the way putting up a business isn't something easy. And when they appear in court, they want mercy."

Kenyans are now demanding swift action against the man, questioning what could have provoked such a destructive and seemingly senseless act.

The incident comes as the country gears towards the high-activity Christmas period.

The government has assured the public of adequate security measures as the country heads into the festive season.

In a statement, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the overall security situation across the country remains calm and stable, but noted that past trends show the period can record isolated increases in criminal activity and traffic violations.

Murkomen also said that security officers drawn from the different police service units and the Kenya Coast Guard Service have been deployed across the country, with all officers previously on leave recalled.

"Similar coordination centres have been activated at regional and county levels to enhance operational command and control. These efforts are complemented by the festive season Operation Orders operationalised by the National Police Service to ensure coordinated, intelligence-led security operations and effective maintenance of law and order across the country," the statement read.
