Kenyans have reacted following a viral video that showed a police officer in full uniform staggering and talking to himself in broad daylight in Kendu Bay, Homa Bay County.
The clip, widely shared on social media, appears to show the officer visibly intoxicated, struggling to maintain balance while walking along a busy public road.
At one point in the video, the officer staggers to a halt, turns and seemingly utters inaudible words before proceeding to walk.
"Askari amekunywa kukunywa. Angalia," one voice in the video is heard quipping amid background chatter.
While the police officer has yet to be identified, netizens expressed concern, with most urging intervention by the service.
"The life behind this uniform is totally a depression..it's not easy life is so hard," wrote Vivian Muchiri on Instagram.
Another wrote, "Let's look for him and support him. We're all human."
The Kendu Bay case follows a similar high-profile incident in Migori County in September 2025, when a senior police officer was arrested for attending an official Interior Ministry event while intoxicated.
During the Jukwaa la Usalama forum at Migori Teachers Training College, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen noticed the officer behaving in an unusual manner.
A breathalyser test confirmed he was drunk, and he was later taken to Migori County Hospital for further tests before facing disciplinary action.
Murkomen had questioned how a senior officer could supervise juniors while intoxicated, warning that indiscipline within the police service undermines public trust and national security.
The Kendu Bay video has reignited debate on alcohol abuse, mental health, and stress management among police officers, an issue that has previously triggered debate.
CS Murkomen has previously acknowledged that alcoholism, insecurity, and community disputes continue to hinder development in regions like Migori and parts of Nyanza.
He has repeatedly warned that officers found violating professional standards will face firm administrative action.
