A viral clip featuring a 5-year-old preschooler, Musa Kihara, has sparked a wave of public support after Nairobi Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria linked the family to former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, drawing attention to their medical struggles.
Musa went viral after a boda boda rider asked him for directions and he confidently responded, “unaenda kwa mbae”, a phrase delivered in his heavy Meru accent that quickly spread online.
Behind the moment, however, is a more difficult reality. Musa’s 9-year-old brother, Lewis Baraka, is currently at Kenyatta National Hospital battling throat cancer, a situation that only became widely known after the video gained traction.
Mosiria later facilitated a meeting between the family and Sonko, who announced immediate support.
I had the absolute joy of hosting the 'Kwa Mbae' legend himself, Musa Kihara, alongside his mother and the incredible TikTok community that has rallied behind them.

“I had the absolute joy of hosting the 'Kwa Mbae' legend himself, Musa Kihara, alongside his mother and the incredible TikTok community that has rallied behind them. Beyond the viral videos, this family is fighting a brave battle for Musa’s 9-year-old brother, Lewis Baraka, who is currently at Kenyatta National Hospital battling throat cancer. To support their journey, I was honoured to contribute Ksh 100,000 to the mother for Lewis’s treatment and Ksh 20,000 to Musa for his needs,” said Sonko via his official X page.
The family has also received earlier support from Mosiria and TikTok influencers who mobilised funds to help clear hospital bills.
Online reactions were overwhelmingly positive.
@Don Mogire wrote, “God bless you Sonkoree”, @rahabnjenga said, “You're the only one who has consistently helped the masses, be blessed” while @BEYOND added, “You have a heart made of fine gold, You are one in a million. May God bless you”.
Sonko has further pledged to build a home for the family and will attend a fundraiser in Tharaka Nithi County as the chief guest to support the child’s treatment.
