Kenyan TikTok sensation Liz Kamene has tragically lost her life following a heartbreaking hit-and-run accident near Kariobangi Roundabout.
The 22-year-old content creator met her untimely death while chasing down thieves who had snatched her phone.
According to eyewitness accounts, Liz was determined to retrieve her stolen device when a speeding car struck her and fled the scene without stopping.
The accident left her with severe injuries, including the loss of an arm and a leg. Disturbingly, instead of assisting her or covering her exposed body, some bystanders opted to capture photos and videos of the gruesome scene as they awaited authorities.
Her tragic death has sparked outrage among Kenyans, who took to social media to condemn the inhumane behaviour of those who chose to record the incident rather than help the dying TikToker.
"Out of all those people taking pictures, not one had a leso to cover her? This is heartbreaking. Rest in peace, Kamene," one user lamented on Facebook.
Others expressed their frustration over the rampant cases of mugging in Nairobi and other urban areas, blaming law enforcement for turning a blind eye to the growing insecurity.
"We cannot keep paying police officers who only show up during protests while innocent citizens lose their lives to muggers and criminals," another netizen commented.
Liz Kamene's death has also left her family, friends, and fans in deep sorrow.
Her grieving boyfriend, Wycliffe Holden, penned an emotional tribute on Facebook, saying, "I can't believe I've lost my Meshika Icon. I wish we would have moved on, but life is too short. I know one day we will meet. I loved you, but Jah loved you more."
The TikTok community is mourning yet another loss, as Liz becomes the second popular Kenyan TikToker to die in a hit-and-run accident.
Just last year, TikTok star Brian Chira lost his life in a similar incident in Kiambu County.
As investigations into Liz Kamene's death continue, Kenyans are calling on authorities to address the rising insecurity and bring the hit-and-run driver to justice.
