Pastor Ng'ang'a tells off Esther Passaris after MP called for his arrest over indecent assault confession

A heated war of words has erupted between Pastor James Ng’ang’a and Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris.

The controversy began after a viral video showed the pastor appearing to confess to a gang rape that allegedly happened decades ago.

The clip, which spread online shows Pastor Ng’ang’a preaching at Neno Evangelism Centre in Nairobi.

In it, he recalls an incident from the 1980s where he and several men attacked a woman. He presents it as part of his “sinful past” before becoming a pastor, under the sermon theme “The devil is a liar.”

The video quickly went viral, drawing millions of views and sparking national outrage. Many Kenyans called for an investigation, saying the matter could not be dismissed as a simple sermon.

A day later, Passaris raised the issue in Parliament. She urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to verify the video and take action if it was genuine.

Passaris also noted the rise of AI-generated videos and called for a digital forensic review.

“If that video is real, it is not a sermon; it is a criminal confession that needs urgent investigation,” she said.

She also asked for the protection of any possible survivors and requested the pastor’s cooperation if the claims were found to be true.

Pastor Ng’ang’a responded sharply. In a follow-up video, dressed in a red shirt, he accused Passaris of overreacting.

He further went ahead and warned Esther to mind her own business, saying that she should take her drama elsewhere. “Don’t try me, you are not my agemate,” he said.

He insisted that he had already served time for past crimes and that his words were meant to show how his life had changed after finding faith.

The clash has divided public opinion, with some calling for accountability and others defending the pastor’s right to share his story of redemption.
