Two men charged with robbery with violence over Sh5,000 Fuliza debt

Two men are facing robbery with violence charges after allegedly attacking and fracturing their friend’s arm over a Sh5,000 Fuliza loan deduction from money sent by a Nairobi Member of Parliament.

Moses Ndiwa Timbe and Cyrus Aluvale Shilahon were arraigned on Wednesday at the Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi. They are accused of jointly robbing Joshua Kimemia Mwangi Sh9,000 via M-Pesa on May 6, 2025, at OLA Energy Plaza in Starehe Sub-County.

According to court documents, the incident occurred after Kimemia, Timbe and Shilahon, who all work at the Golf Club in Nairobi, spent the evening drinking at a club within the area. They were later joined by three other men, bringing the total number in the group to six.

As the evening progressed, the group decided to move to another club. It was then that Kimemia realised he had run out of cash. He reached out to Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri, claiming he was short of fare. The legislator is said to have sent him Sh10,000 to keep the night going.

However, shortly after the money was received, Timbe and Shilahon allegedly demanded Sh6,000 from Kimemia, saying they no longer wished to continue drinking. When Kimemia explained that Sh5,000 had been automatically deducted through Fuliza, a heated argument ensued. The disagreement quickly turned violent. During the ensuing scuffle, the two men allegedly twisted Kimemia’s arm, fracturing it. They are further accused of snatching his phone, gaining access to his M-Pesa account and transferring Sh9,000 to their own numbers before fleeing.

The two suspects were subsequently arrested and arraigned on robbery with violence charges. They denied the charges and were released on bond pending hearing of their case on September 5, 2026.
