Kenyans have taken to social media in outrage following the tragic death of Elsie Njeru, the wife of popular reggae hype man MC Jah Watchman.

Elsie, a young mother of two, succumbed to injuries on the morning of Saturday, February 22, after being involved in a grisly accident at the Nyayo Stadium Roundabout in Nairobi.

The accident, which occurred on the night of Friday, February 21, left several people critically injured after a speeding Volkswagen Golf GTI reportedly rammed into their staff van.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the car was being driven recklessly by an intoxicated driver, who fled the scene immediately after the crash.

Despite the severity of the incident, no arrests have been made, sparking fury among Kenyans online. Many believe the driver is being protected due to connections in high places.

One X user vented, "Doesn't Kenya have a forensic department to sweep the car and find the culprit ama the killer driver is a deep pocket with connections?"

Another outraged netizen wrote, "So long as you have money in Kenya, you can even kill half a population and get away with it. Ever seen a reckless driver have their license revoked forever for killing someone? Money always buys freedom."

Journalist Saddique Shaban shared a video on X allegedly showing the red Volkswagen Golf GTI speeding recklessly in a race.

He further shared claims that the killer vehicle had been involved in a hit-and-run accident in 2024.

Witnesses at the scene reported that multiple Volkswagen vehicles were racing when the front car lost control and crashed into the van carrying Elsie.

In a shocking twist, a sticker believed to be linked to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) was allegedly found on the mangled vehicle. However, authorities have yet to confirm whether the driver has military ties.

Elsie Njeru's leaves behind her husband, MC Jah Watchman, and their two children, the youngest being just two and a half years old.

Heartfelt tributes have poured in online. A former classmate wrote, "The young mother's name is Elsie Njeru, my classmate in college. May her family find solace and peace during this difficult time. R.I.P."

"A beautiful soul in and out. Your smile conquered all. Shine on your way gal. It has hit hard. A young wife and mother's life cut short because of a reckless driver. I pray the driver is arrested and rots in jail. My heart is broken into pieces," another mourner expressed devastation,

On Monday, February 24, reggae fans, friends, and family gathered at Quiver Lounge in Kilimani, Nairobi, for a candlelight vigil in Elsie's memory.

The event, hosted by her husband and his reggae group Moh Spice Ent, was attended by notable figures, including Nairobi Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu, media personality Shix Kapyenga, DJ Moh Spice, Churchill, and P-Unit's Frasha.

The attendees lit candles, sang, and celebrated the life of Elsie Njeru. In an emotional Instagram post, her grieving husband wrote:

"Let's celebrate this wonderful soul that brought joy to many who knew her. Keep on smiling, my friend... Thanks a lot for baby Eliana Zawadi. She is truly a gift."

Despite mounting public pressure, the driver responsible for the fatal crash remains at large. The lack of action by law enforcement has only fueled speculation that the suspect has influential connections shielding them from justice.

Elsie Njeru's body has since been moved to her hometown in Embu County, where she will be laid to rest on Friday, February 28.
