Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has flagged off a group of headteachers for a fully paid five-night trip to Dubai, part of an ambitious incentives programme aimed at boosting academic performance and encouraging healthy competition across primary and secondary schools in the constituency.
Nyoro, who shared photos from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as he bid the educators farewell, said the initiative is meant to recognise excellence and motivate schools to aim even higher.
Under the scheme, teachers whose subjects post the best or most improved results in Murang'a East and Kahuro sub-counties earn a trip to Dubai.
Headteachers from the best-performing and most improved schools also qualify, while past beneficiaries are rewarded with a trip to Malaysia.
The same structure applies to day secondary schools.
This year's Dubai-bound headteachers are drawn from Ngaru Primary School, Githagara Primary School, Technology Primary School, Maragi Primary School and Githuguya Primary School.
Their itinerary includes a five-night fully paid stay, a half-day Dubai city tour, a Marina Dhow cruise dinner with live entertainment, a visit to the Burj Khalifa and a desert safari capped with a BBQ dinner.
Nyoro emphasised that the packages are privately funded and do not draw from public resources.
He added that the incentive programme is part of a broader plan to strengthen competition across Kiharu schools, reward dedicated educators and ultimately improve learner outcomes.
The teachers are expected to return later in the week after their experiential tour of the Emirate.
