Webuye: Woman detained after Deputy Principal dies in hotel room

Detectives in Webuye have detained a 28-year-old woman after the sudden death of St Cecilia Misikhu Girls Secondary School Deputy Principal Caleb Wekesa Nakhisa.

The woman, identified as Sharon Naliaka was placed in custody to assist police with investigations into the incident.

According to a police report filed at Webuye Police Station, Naliaka spent the evening of May 23 with the deputy principal at various entertainment joints within Webuye town.

The two reportedly drank with friends at SK Club from around 8pm before moving to Thumbs Club, where they stayed until 11pm. The police report notes that Nakhisa and Naliaka then checked into Satellite Hotel for the night.

"At around 12.20am on May 24, the deceased reportedly started feeling unwell," the police report states. "Sharon Naliaka informed the hotel management, who responded and found him foaming at the mouth inside the room."

Naliaka and hotel staff rushed the educator to Calvary Hospital in Webuye before he was referred to Webuye Sub-County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 10 minutes after arrival.

Detectives from the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office and officers from Matulo Police Post visited the room to document evidence.

Investigators are currently awaiting toxicology and forensic results to determine what caused Nakhisa’s death.

Speaking at the hospital, the teacher's father, Maurice Nakhisa, said a postmortem had already been conducted.

He said the family wants a thorough investigation to establish the truth.

"The report showed cardiac arrest with black blood oozing from the body," the father said. "We want investigations completed so that the family can know exactly what happened."

The widow, Rachel Nekesa, said the death of her husband of 20 years is a devastating blow to the family, leaving her to raise their four children alone.

Bungoma KUPPET Secretary General Augustine Luketelo mourned the deputy principal as a big loss to the teaching fraternity, adding that teachers are working under immense pressure that often affects their health.
